In the Passive Voice

by Sandra Bogerd

Available as a CD from Chaos Music, or for download at your favourite music download site (iTunes, eMusic, Amazon).

Independent Release date: 2008

A mixture of a cappella and electronic world-influenced pop. My style usually noted for its vocal tracks, use of voice as sound effect or instrument and sparse accompaniments. The mastering engineer called the album "a breath of fresh air".

Tracks

Kyrie
Bulgarian-influenced vocal work accompanied by electronic drone. This piece became the first movement of my mass Missa Prima.
Yayo
African-influenced a cappella piece.
Bedeah
Electric beats and world chants.
Jesu Criste Milde Moder
Medieval 2-part vocal piece.
Hiding
Egyptian-influenced pop.
Weep O Mine Eyes
Early English polyphony by Bennet.
Song for Deaf Ears
A passive protest song, dedicated to politicians who ignore the warnings of climate change and other environmental concerns. Fortunately the song is almost dated. Slight reggae feel, trademark vocal harmonies, and quirky electronics.
Blues Scat No. 1
Sandra goes bop bop-ba doo dot dow with a simple bass and rim hit accompaniment.
Pastime With Good Company
Supposedly by Henry VIII, 3-part vocal.
Impassive Dome
A lovely 3-part vocal piece by my friend Theresa Wallner.
Alone
An experimental piece that uses samples from a live performance by James Ong, Theresa Wallner and myself of James's round and other snippets. My mum hates this song but likes every other track on the album ;-)
Da
An improvised a cappella track.
Cry Limit
A synth pop song inspired by such styles as ELO and Pink Floyd.
Sanctus
Lovely four-part vocal piece by Byrd.
Underlying Thought
Improvised electronic track that is influenced by the work I did as part of electronic act Signal to Noise.
Agnus Dei
Eight-part vocal piece that is the final movement of my mass Missa Prima. The mastering engineer called this an "awesome track".

Sheet music available for some pieces.
